Kindness may seem like a simple act, but is it really? There’s always room to be a bit more attentive, gentle, and respectful. Kindness can be cultivated and, in this sense, become refined and deeply sophisticated. In some Eastern countries, it is practiced and developed as a true art.

This art requires perceiving and understanding the needs of others, as well as accepting mistakes with gentleness and naturalness — a quality known as kshanti, which can be translated as tolerant or loving patience. Day by day, with humility and attention to small gestures, one can progress toward perfection in one of the highest virtues of Buddhism and other spiritual traditions: maitri, benevolence or loving-kindness.

Without love, kindness is reduced to a mere formal gesture; but when genuine and heartfelt, it holds immense transformative power in human relationships.
